FAQs

Why should we consider investing in a power bed?

If you have power seats & power windows in your car to make your driving more comfortable for an hour per day, why not have a power bed in your bedroom where you spend 1/3 of your life? To maximize your quality of sleep we recommend the "zero gravity" position for sleeping. This pressure-free position has been used by medical professionals for decades to relax the spine and improve breathing and circulation. With the touch of a button you can elevate your head and feet into a "zero gravity" position, providing the comfort and support you need to achieve a deeper and more restful night's sleep.

Can I purchase a mattress now and upgrade to a power base later?

Yes. All of our mattresses are 100% compatible with our power bases. You can start of with any of our mattress models now and purchase the power bases later to upgrade your flat system into a power system. The new power bases would simply replace the flat foundations.

Why is the quality of my sleep important?

Our increasingly hectic lifestyle requires a higher quality sleep to cope with stress and maintain optimal health. Unfortunately, in recent years, the trend has been in the opposite direction; more things to do less quality sleep! Poor quality sleep compounds daily stress which in turn makes a good night's rest even more difficult to achieve.

Aren't these adjustable power beds for older folks?

Not any more! Over 70 million Americans suffer from poor sleep, consisting mostly of today's younger Baby Boomer generation! Back in the 1970's power beds were more like a hospital bed with a rather uncomfortable innerspring mattress and were not available in a King size! Today's power beds are ultra luxurious, with WiFi remotes with iPhone applications! With the advent of the Split Top King mattress power adjustable beds appeal to those seeking a better night's sleep regardless of age!

Is there really a big difference in power bases?

Absolutely! Most internet and many local retailers are selling imported bases from Taiwan and China which largely utilize plastic drive motor assemblies with plastic parts. Our heavy duty Supreme and Genius models utilize steel lifting motors with steel parts. For over 43 years we have specialized in adjustable power beds. Our models are all made in the USA and are designed to our exacting specifications. All power bases have a limited Lifetime factory warranty and are backed by a nationwide network of factory technicians if assistance is ever required.

Can I get a power base without massage?

Yes. However, since the massage function is a small fraction of the total cost of the power base the Supreme and Genius models include massage as a standard feature. Many people consider the massage feature like the horn on their car, although you may rarely use it, it's nice to have when you really need it! The Wave massage feature is ideal for those with Insomnia or anyone who has difficulty falling asleep at night. The wave feature creates a gentle rocking motion which creates a gentle rocking motion to help you relax and unwind. Also whenever you have muscular aches and pains, the massage feature will be a welcomed addition to your comfort portfolio.

Have you ever floated on your back in water? Have you ever tried to float on your side? For the same reason that you cannot float on your side is why we do not reccomend sleeping on your side! Sleeping on your side creates additional stress and pressure on the narrow edge of your body and your body will toss and turn throughout the night trying to reduce pressure points, much like a cat chasing its tail, and resulting in waking up often more tired than the night before!

Do you know WHY you do not sleep on your back now? The reason is so simple it may suprise you!

Take a look inside yourself - the human spine is not flat!

Your spine has has a slight S curve and when you lie flat on your back, you put pressure and tension on your spinal column and back muscles. Since your entire body is curved and not flat, most people cannot sleep on their back in an ordinary flat bed. In fact, conventional bedding forces most individuals to sleep on their side in a semi-fetal position. This is not something we were taught; rather, it is something we do out of necessity. With an ordinary flat bed, your only alternative is to try to adjust your body to the bed, such as turning to your left or right side, tossing and turning, on average, 40 - 80 times per night!

Sleeping on your side creates pressure, stress and strain on the narrow side of your body, notably your arm/shoulder, hip or knee areas. This makes deep breathing much more difficult and restricts blood circulation. Have you ever had your arm fall asleep during the night or awaken in the morning and been more tired than the night before? This constant tossing and turning leads to sleep fragmentation and may disrupt the natural sleep cycle progression and prevent you from enjoying the deep, restful, restorative sleep you deserve.

Elevate yourself into the 21st century!

The primary benefit of an adjustable power bed is to allow you to sleep on your back during the night with both your head and leg sections elevated. (This is called the zero gravity position.) The degree of elevation will vary among individuals; however, four to eight inches on both the head and leg sections are averages. (This creates a semi-fetal or contour position.)

Your new power bed will allow you to electrically adjust yourself into hundreds of relaxing positions, all without creating pressure, stress or strain on your body. While sleeping on your back in the zero gravity position, your circulation will be enhanced, your breathing made easier, your hips and low back become cradled by the mattress. In short, your weight will be more evenly distributed and you will be infinitely more comfortable than lying on your side or back on an ordinary flat bed!

The new, 4-way power adjustable bed for the rest of your life!

During the night, while you sleep on your back in this new zero gravity position, you may make slight adjustments to the degree of elevation during the night (much like adjusting six-way power seats in your car during a long trip). This will allow you to change your position while still maintaining the benefits of the zero gravity position.

However, only about 50% of our customers purchase a power bed to improve a sleep-related condition. The other 50% purchase theirs for the wonderful relaxation benefits of the massage system or simply to elevate their bed while watching TV, enjoying breakfast in bed, reading, writing, doing crossword puzzles or working on their laptop computer. Our new Genius model is WiFi and iPhone compatible and fully integrates with iPhone applications! You spend 1/3 of your life in bed. Where else should you be more comfortable?

If you have power windows, power locks and power seats in your car, that you only use for an average of an hour per day, why not have a 4-way power bed in your bedroom where you'll spend 1/3 of your life?

Our holistic approach begins with an individual sleep consultation. Our sales counselor can then recommend a sleep system to suit your individual needs. Stop in or call to learn more about the best sleep system for your body and mind. We believe we can radically improve the on-third of your life spent sleeping and, most importantly, your waking hours!

Additional health benefits of the Zero Gravity position:

This physician-recommended position, used by NASA astronauts during lift-off, promotes total relaxation by reducing physical stress. The open angle between torso and thigh expands lung capacity, increases blood oxygen levels and reduces stress. Your legs are positioned above your heart to reduce pressure on your spine and relieve muscle tension. Compared to traditional flat mattresses alone, the Zero Gravity position obtainable in our power bases help reduce back pain and muscle pressure, and contribute to a more comfortable and enjoyable lifestyle.

Unloading of spinal discs:

Human spinal discs have viscoelastic properties. That is, they compress at a decelerating rate when loaded and expand at a decelerating rate when unloaded. Higher loads result in a higher rate of compression. Spinal loading from daily activities will cause shrinkage in stature, of up to 20mm over the day. (Astronauts are up to 2 inches taller when they return to earth, than they are when they leave!)

This transfer of fluid in and out of the disc is the body's mechanism for supplying nutrition to the discs. Spinal discs do not have a direct blood supply, and this osmosis and diffusion is essential to maintaining spinal health. Of course, disc fluid transfer is also increased with movement (that is, exercise!)

Given that the onset of degenerative spinal changes occurs ins commonly at a young age in industrialized societies such as our own, and that these degenerative spinal changes occur only at more advanced ages in primitive societies, it is likely that we need much more unloading and/or exercise in our daily lives than we currently get.

Loads on the lumbar spine are reduced in neutral lumbar postures. Technically speaking, the neutral posture is defined as being near the mid-point of the available range-of-motion in that body region.

Relaxation of spinal muscle:

The heart pumps blood, full of nutrients and oxygen, to our body parts. Muscles pump blood, carrying the waste products of metabolism, back to the heart. The muscle pump works by massaging the blood vessels which pass through them. The pumping massage action occurs as the muscles intermittently contract and relax. During sustained muscle contractions, blood flow through the muscles is restricted or occluded. So it is important that the muscles have intermittent opportunities to relax. (For references, check any basic physiology text.)

What type of mattress is best?

Only one fact is certain - for the highest quality sleep, every sleeper needs to maximize total body support while minimizing interface pressure against your body from the mattress. How to best achieve that goal is totally dependent upon the individual sleeper(s) and their unique body types and requirements. The best kind of a pressure relieving mattress will vary between individuals just as the best kind of eyewear will vary depending upon the specific individual's specific needs. The best specialty mattresses will typically vary between air support, memory foam or natural latex foam, with air supported mattresses having the most flexability to customize your firmness and support over time.

What type of mattress is worst?

Any mattress that creates excessive interface pressure against our body will increase tossing and turning at night, increase pressure points and numbness and lessen the quality of your restorative sleep. Since our bodies perform best with high quality sleep, and pressure points at night lessen high quality sleep, experts agree that any mattress with steel coils or steel springs which press back against your body while you sleep will create pressure points and lead to body aches and pains, numbness, and ultimately sleep fragmentation and sleeplessness.

Exactly what is the Eco MemoryFoamâ„¢ used in the Cloud 9 mattresses?

Every Cloud 9 mattress is made with Eco Memory Foam, the first plant- based memory foam product made in America. The patented production process creates the most breathable memory foam mattresses on the market, to help you sleep cooler and be more comfortable. Our Cloud 9 is made without halogens and created in a sealed zero emission chamber, so gases that are the normal byproduct of the production process cannot escape into the atmosphere.

Is Eco MemoryFoamâ„¢ a GREEN PROCESS product?

All Eco Memory memory foam mattresses are made with biodegradable and rapidly renewable materials, resulting in less impact on landfills and less strain on the environment. Eco Memory Foam uses a 100% natural petroleum substitute in its manufacturing process. Our factory runs a longer day but a shorter work week, so employees use less gas commuting and as a result contribute fewer carbon pollutants into the environment. Even the scrap cuttings of foam (pre-consumer recyclable material) are collected during production and used to form the base layer of each Eco Memory Foam mattress. All these efforts reflect our commitment to our environment and support our mission to produce a truly GREEN PROCESS product.

Are all components of Eco Memory Foam of US origin?

Yes. Our memory foam is manufactured in the U.S. in zero emissions chambers to protect the atmosphere. The bamboo blend fabric is woven domestically. The product is assembled in California in an environmentally-balanced facility. It is then roll-compressed to 10% of its original height and packaged in biodegradable materials for earth-friendlier shipping via UPS.

Will the Eco Memory Foam mattress sleep hot like other memory foams?

Foams by nature are great insulators, trapping heat. That is why foam is sometimes used to insulate a house. Thus, many people complain about sleeping hot on their memory foam mattress. This is NOT the case with Eco Memory Foam due to its extreme open cell architecture. In tests against the leading memory foam mattresses, Eco Memory Foam was shown to dissipate heat 10X faster and permit 8X greater airflow through the foam, resulting in a cool sleep surface. Importantly, Eco Memory Foam is temperature neutral. The foam is unaffected by variations in room temperature. Other visco memory foams become hard in a cool room and soft in a warmer room.

Will I experience the sinking in sand effect of other memory foam mattresses?

Tempur-Pedic, the leading brand of memory foam mattresses, works on body heat as well as weight. As the mattress senses your body heat it conforms to your shape. This can give one a feeling of sinking into quick sand. It makes changing positions during the night an effort. Not with Eco Memory Foam. Our memory foam mattress gives you a feeling of floating. It has the perfect intuitive response for comfort, support and makes changing positions effortless.

Why is our air mattress voted #1 over Sleep Number & Tempur-Pedic by thousands of actual mattress owners on the Internet?

As of this writing, Sleep Number offers eight different model mattresses. Our GS Supreme has 7 distinct advantages over even their best model, the Sleep Number i10. We feel that if we are better than their very best model, we are, without question, better than all of their models. Based on our customer feedback, we have discovered the primary reasons why actual customers rate our models higher. We will discuss these reasons in the questions below.

What makes the GS Supreme better than the Sleep Number i10 (Sleep Number's very best mattress)?

Perhaps the single biggest reason is that with the GS Supreme model we utilize edge-to-edge air chambers without side or center foam rails. Side & center foam rails are used in all Sleep Number models. For example, Sleep Number's dual king size air mattress has a total of 16" of foam rails, including 8" down the center of the king bed. Our GS Supreme has NO foam rails on the edge or center and may be ordered as a split top design as well as a dual king. With Sleep Number's Dual King bed your effective air sleeping surface is only 60" which is the same sleeping surface as our queen size mattress!

What is a Split Top mattress anyway?

The split top mattress is a king or queen mattress with a 1/3 split down the top center of the mattress. This allows couples to have independent elevation adjustments without using separate twin size mattresses as with Sleep Number's dual king system. With the split top design, couples can still cuddle since the bottom 2/3 of the mattress remains solid while allowing for individual foot and head elevation adjustments.

What makes the GS Supreme mattress padding better than Sleep Number i10 padding?

We utilize New Zealand Joma wool in the mattress padding - wool is a natural ingredient and is breathable and hygroscopic. Wool helps to keep the sleeper cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Sleep Number uses all synthetic materials.

What is the mattress cover made from?

We utilize natural Bamboo fabric. Although softer than cotton, it is actually anti bacterial and ideal for anyone with allergy or sinus conditions as well as those desiring exceptional comfort. When growing in nature, Bamboo does not require pesticides due to its inherent anti fungal and anti bacterial qualities. When tested, after a 24 hour period, 100% Bamboo fabric killed 99.8% of the Staphylococcus Aureous bacteria.

Isn't wool sometimes itchy or hot?

Not as utilized in our mattress since it is embedded under the Bamboo mattress cover and encased to ensure it does not contact your skin. Lambs wool provides a natural and breathable sleeping environment. Wool fiber is a molecular coil spring making the fiber remarkably elastic. As a hygroscopic fiber wool takes up moisture in vapor form. Tiny pores in the epicuticle make the fiber semi-permeable allowing vapor to pass through to the heart of the fiber. Wool can easily absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp or clammy. This ability makes wool a natural temperature regulator because it can protect in both warm and cold conditions.

Why is the GS Supreme warranty better than Sleep Number warranty?

While both have 20 year limited warranty coverage, the GS Supreme provides full 4-year non pro-rata coverage on parts compared to Sleep Number which has only has the first 2 years full non pro-rata coverage and begins pro rata coverage in year three at 20% of replacement cost.

How many actual mattress firmness levels are available?

Sleep Number has 20 settings; we have 100 individual settings for each sleep partner. We have a custom firmness memory setting and auto fill button to return the mattress to 100% to make the bed in the morning if desired.
